Señora Amy met the Olas team in Guatemala for the first time in person this past summer.
Today I'd like to share with you the testimonial of Señora Amy Bonnici, an amazing educator at The Wheeler School in Providence, Rhode Island. She's one of the teachers who has been with Project Olas from the very beginning since the COVID-19 pandemic!
Below, Señora Amy shares what Olas has meant to her, how Olas has impacted the lives of her students, and how the experience has been so far!! Here is her testimonial about Project Olas in her classroom:
"Hi, everybody! My name is Amy and I'm a teacher in Providence, Rhode Island. I teach High School Spanish and I have been working with Project Olas for five years now––and I can't recommend it highly enough. It is really a game-changer. I was able to visit the women in Guatemala with whom my students had a relationship, and it solidified even more how important not only this program is but also how fortunate we are that it exists.
This organization has created a space for us to be able to communicate. My students work 1:1 once a month with their Guatemalan mom. They have a wonderful relationship. It's really transformative education. I've been looking for something like this my whole career. They practice their Spanish, they're learning about different cultures, they're recognizing diverse perspectives, they're investigating the world. They're communicating their ideas in Spanish. They're listening. They are also taking action.
They're part of something bigger than just working in a textbook. They are part of something really beautiful and they realize that and they love it! And it's a real work in solidarity. We work in collaboration and I can't speak highly enough about it. Try it! You won't be sorry. I absolutely love working with Project Olas and I know you will too!"
Amy is one of the teachers who was there at the beginning of Project Olas, and we're thrilled that she continues to work with us at our organization. Together we are creating waves one conversation at a time!

Señora Amy also represented Olas at the RIFLA conference in Rhode Island this past fall.
